It is brain surgery, but it is not an uncommon one and the benefits can far outweigh the very low risks. Since you're close enough to Dallas, you could look online to find out what surgeons in the area are 'known' for doing chiari. As far as hospitals, look for one that has a well developed neurology service. In my experience, 'teaching' hospitals are among the best, and they are usually good about accepting Medicaid etc. Get a consultation with a surgeon to talk about it. Find out everything you can.. because you can always back out of it at the last minute. That is your right.
