I guess he likes and cares about these people and it might have hurt him? I can understand that-I wouldn't want someone I was dating badmouthing somebody I cared about. I'm not saying you badmouthed them, I'm just trying to understand why he would have said that to you. What would have made ME upset enough to say something like that to someone whom I was going out with.
Maybe you can be more gentle about your obvious dislike towards these people, even if they are in the wrong, he obviously cares about them and feels protective of them?
You have to consider his feelings towards them when you speak about them.
