I definitely agree with other posters that you should talk to your doctor as to why s/he thinks this is a good combination for you.
That said, my two cents: Abilify isn't really classed as an antidepressant by itself. When taken for depression, it is supposed to "help" your antidepressants "kick in", as you said. This is only when taken at a low dose. It's used as an antipsychotic at higher doses.
I took it for a while. It really helped boost my energy and helped me show up for things. Unfortunately, it stopped working after about a year.
It also has some scary side effects. If you are on this medication, you should have your liver enzymes and your blood sugar monitored. Less scary, but inconvenient, is weight gain.
Lamictal isn't an antidepressant either. It's a mood stabilizer. I'm kind of curious why your doctor thinks this is a good combination for you.
