I have been on the generic of Cymbalta, Cymgen, for 4 years along with a mood stabilizer to help with my biploar disorder.
Although i was on the generic, the active ingredient is the same, Duloxetine.
I didn't have many noticeable side effects in the 4 year period, but i got sick by lunchtime if i forgot to take my 90mg in the morning. Disorientated, light headed, nauseas. So if you forget to take it, it's not nice at all.
This eventually made me decide to try stop all my medication because the thought of my body being so dependent on it upset me.
If you try to go off duloxetine once your body is used to it, it is AWFUL. Very hard and takes a lot of time and perseverance because the withdrawal symptoms are bad. It took me about 4 months of severe headaches, nausea, and a severe inflation of my disorder before i managed to ween myself to the lowest mg and then to finally nothing.
I've been free from it for 5 weeks now.
Now that i'm off it, i feel great, but at the same time i've gone back to living with my disorder and my episodes get very bad, so also worse. But thinking back, i felt like a zombie all that time.
In short, from my experience, it DOES work but the dependence your body develops on it is severe and you should watch out for that, especially if you decide you ever want to go off it. If this isn.t a problem for you, go ahead and see how it works for you. It has different effects for different people but what will always remain the same after being on it for a stretch of time is the withdrawal when going off.
If you do carry on with it, there are quite a few support forums for people who have been trying to deal with the withdrawal symptoms and side effects of cymbalta and its generic (if you develop any side effects)
