Unless I am mistaken, you cannot actually "hear" binaural beats. They represent the phase difference between the left and right channels, which the brain resolves by creating a "third channel" equal to difference. This difference is typically in the 10Hz range, which is equivalent to the brains' Alpha state, but below the 20Hz cutoff for normal human hearing.
