I saw yet another news segment about the pet food recalls, and this one was about how many pet owners are turning to making their own dog and cat food. They offered a really good bit of advice, and I thought I'd share it with you:

Before you start making your own pet food, you should consult your veterinarian, to make sure you meet your pet's nutritional needs. Each type of animal, and each breed of animal, has its own nutritional needs. You also want to be sure of the right amount to feed your pet.

You shouldn't feed your pet the same thing every day. Just like you and me, if your dog eats boiled chicken and rice every day, they'll start having health problems due to a lack of nutrients they can't get from that particular meal.

Even when you follow pet food recipes you find online or in books, you should check the nutrition information.

Here's a link that was on the news to some pet food recipes:

How to Make Your Own Pet Food Recipes - Besides dog and cat recipes, it includes one for budgie owners! (I'm not too sure about the "chicken soap" recipes, though...chicken soap doesn't sound too good, LOL!)
