Any advice on self help?

yes follow what your treatment providers tell you to do. therapy and medication cant help if a person doesnt participate and inconsistent with attendance and taking the meds as prescribed..... I have found making sure I am consistent and actively participating in therapy and meds goes a long way for my self help tools.

yes I use meditation and have found that its a great tool for helping me to control my anxiety problems.

other self help tools I use....

eating correctly. you would be surprised at how eating the wrong foods or skipping meals due to all kinds of reasons can mess up a persons thinking process and cause mental symptoms that can appear to be mental disorders.

Exercise...the body cant function correctly if its all turning to fat or limpness due to lack of exercise. there are many great exercise programs out there for all sorts of body sizes, limitations, abilities that can be customized to ones own needs.

Someone mentioned Journaling. I have found that to be very helpful.

My wife and I also take college courses for social and entertainment. we look for those courses that fit into our time, finances and hobbies. you would be surprised at how helpful it can be to take time out of focusing on the problems /mental disorders/physical health problems that kick us every day and just sit back and enjoy a hobby for a change, clears the mind so that new ideas on how to handle things can come forth.
