My current pdoc is also a neurologist and she is terrific. I think having both gives her a better understanding of how the brain works, what different medications and combinations work best and that medications are not always the answer when I am struggling. She knows how to talk to me and what questions to ask.
She was my pdoc while I was inpatient and I was immediately impressed. She saw me everyday and when the medications weren't working she talked to me about ECT and was able to explain how it would affect me/my brain in a way I understood.
When I was discharged I quit my old pdoc, who just handed me new prescriptions with every new complaint and only talked about her life, and switched to her.
During my last appointment, as we discussed my CSA she was able to explain how my brain's development was affected due to the abuse happening at such an early stage in my brain's development.
Knowing how the brain works, she is quick to respond when I am struggling so I don't fall too far back. I have made more progress with her in the 2 years I have seen her than in the 8 years I saw my old pdoc.
