Being raised in an environment like that will leave lingering battle scars, so to speak. Even, in finding a renewed sense of faith, there's lingering things below the surface. Many may intellectually take it all in. Yet, if most of what occurred, did so in childhood, in adulthood, it's a reprocessing with an adult perspective and sets of feelings that didn't exist in childhood, by virtue of it being childhood.
And even, once addressed, aha moments can occur.
