First off, find a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). They can diagnose ADD but cannot prescribe meds. You need to talk to a professional (and yes, it sounds like ADD). If the LCSW feels you need to see a psychiatrist or psychologist, they'll refer you. Luckily my LCSW works in conjunction with two psychiatrists if I ever need more help.

Please get to the library and check out Driven To Distraction by Drs. Hallowell and Ratey. They also wrote Answers to Distraction and Delivered from Distraction. If you can afford one of those get "Answers." These books are awesome! If you are ADD you'll read them and think, "Whoa, how do they know me?"

ADDers can have addictive personalities. According to the above books, we're more likely to abuse drugs, alcohol, smoke, self-medicate. I'm one of the lucky ones; I don't like alcohol (except a salty margarita!) but I do self-medicate with shopping, make-up in particular.

As for your work life, it would be a great idea to find an ADD coach and/or a career counselor. Find out what your passions are, what your talents are, and tailor your job search. Although I've been a gov't employee for almost 20 years I just "fell" into this due to my dad working for the gov't. I know I'd be great in sales though. I'm trying to work through the fear of finding another job that would better suit my personality and talents.

Meds might help you keep a job. I know taking wellbutrin and prozac for depression really helped me out. I'm still jittery at times though. One thing that really helps is exercise. You might find you like walking, running, lifting weights, anything to get the excess energy out of your system. I'm learning to harness the energy; instead of cruising the internet I'm interacting more with people I'm comfortable with (friends from church), doing more housework, etc.

Please keep us posted and feel free to ask more questions .
