If you are just taking it for sleep there are other options that are not associated with weight gain. I think using seroquel for sleep is a pretty poor choice because of the potential high side effect burden. For sleep there are the Z drugs, benzos, trazodone, and amitryptiline, and none of those are associated with weight gain. There is also melatonin, which works for some people.
I do have seroquel for sleep, but the reason is because I can't take Z drugs or benzos because I get random drug screens, and those come up as positive. Trazodone doesn't work for me, and I don't want to add another antidepressant and risk destabilizing, so amitryptiline is out. I haven't tried melatonin yet, but I probably should. If you can try one of these other choices I would say go for it if seroquel is causing weight gain.
