Hi there Heather and a big warm WELCOME to Psych Central and all of the excellent things it has going for it.
I am diagnosed BPD with all of the horrible symptoms that go to make up this awful disorder. I'm English and live in England. I lived in the South of France for 12 years and those years were GOOD years with not many problems. YES, I maybe was over medicated by England's standards but I was great. I lived with my partner and soul mate. When he passed on I decided to come home to Dad, that was 4 years ago. I've had to fight fight and fight for my meds here, I'd ended up in the Psych hospital twice before the Psych Dr would even think of prescribing me the meds I had in France. I've now done a year of one to one DBT/S.T.E.P.P.S. and I've just finished a 4 month course of group S.T.E.P.P.S. English Dr's now want to use DBT or even better S.T.E.P.P.S. IS the way forward. S.T.E.P.P.S. was invented by an American lady called Marsha Lineman (that may be wrong spelling) but I can look it up. Marsha worked with woman prisoners with diagnosed BPD and she found the prognosis good following a programme of interaction with trainers and other women one to one. I've had 33 LONG years suffering BPD and whats more so have my poor family. I don't even remember how many addmissions to the Psych hospital there were, usually suicide attemps or anorexia, though I was bulimic also. Even NOW I've booked myself into de~tox and re~hab 'cos I fell by the wayside when I was so depressed, I started the poly substance abuse to ease the pain gloom. That's drink and opiate painkillers. I'm now 2 months clean AGAIN!!!!! I've been down this road a few times but I'm having a real good run now. OK hunny, I seem to be interested in the same things as yourself, so I hope we meet each other around this great site. HUGS. xx
