I know this is probably no consolation because for sure it is a big loss and it should be grieved. But at least with all the modern forms of communication hopefully you can maintain a relationship even though it will not be the same.
I have some friends that I maintain relationships with via text and email 2500 miles away. But then I have had others who just do not reciprocate even though I try.
