Hello, LostInParadise92, and welcome to Psych Central! I think your friends are trying to break free of their ties, so they can go out and spread their wings. My yound adult sons don't want to live where we live and where they spent a good part of their lives. They think it's "boring."

Yet, there are plenty folks who grew up here and love it--and want to spend their whole lives here. Sometimes I wish I could go back and live in the house where I spent my whole life until I went off to college. It was a farm, miles away from a nearby town, so I know what you mean.

Either way is okay. I know it's frustrating to hear of folks who put down where you live, but that's just their current opinion. Who knows, maybe some of them will even return to the area at some point.
