Recently (like in the last 4 months or so), something weird has been happening to me when I get stressed, mostly when I start to dissociate: I can be listening to someone, but what they say suddenly no longer makes any sense. I can understand the individual words they are saying, but cannot put meaning to the sentence or sentiment. It most recently happened in my last therapy session. The therapist was asking me questions, and I couldn't understand what she was saying. I told her this, and she suggested that maybe she was being too abstract in her dialogue. Since she is a new T, I kinda just went with it (maybe she is and I'm just stressing a lot in session). But this wasn't the first time it happened to me. It has happened before with my previous T, and sometimes it happens when I'm talking to people about other random things. I can hear the words, I can know their indevidual meaning, but I can't string those meanings together to get the full gist of what the person is saying. It's very frustrating.

Has anyone else had anything like this? It's kinda disturbing...
here in NY when someone suddenly with in a few months start having episodes where they can not understand what is being said to them its usually a physical health problem not a mental health problem....

example one day I was sitting with my wife and suddenly I had trouble understanding what she was saying. I immediately got concerned because it had never happened before. I went to my medical doctor and discovered I had a medicinal problem that was causing my body to react as if I was having mini strokes. that medication was changed and with in a few weeks my brain was able to use its logic tools that brains do when taking words and putting them together and understand whats being said.

another example someone I know went months without notifying their treatment provider that they were having problems with understanding what was being said to them....turned out they were having minis strokes.

in other situations I know of it turned out people had Alzheimer disease/ cancer and other physical health problems....

my suggestion even though its happening during stressful times when you dissociate that may also point directly to something physical so if this was me I would be contacting my treatment providers so that diagnostic tests and treatment can be done whether its mental or physical.
Thanks for this!
