I'm in this boat as well. In times when there's a prolonged silence, I often realize that I'm starting to think of bad memories again. I used to just sink in it without realizing what was happening, but now I know I have to immediately take off the focus somehow or be in a lot of pain. I also do things to distract myself. Telling myself what's going on loudly and clearly in my head can help too.
