Does yr work know about yr illness? Mine does which is why I was able to take a leave of absence. maybe you could tell them that you need to be out for two weeks for medical reasons? How long have you worked there? It can help if you've worked for the company for at least a year...meaning it can help with the explanation if you've been there a while. Since yr in a union job I think that's a good thing too...job protection. You may have to use yr sick pay and vacation time if you need to have the time off paid..just throwing out ideas.
