I read a book that suggested the idea of writing a fable using my own childhood. So, I did and here it is. This discusses fear of abandonment and a little abuse.
Once upon a time, a little filly was born. Her momma (Beth) named her Flicka and her sister Cinnamon. Flicka couldn't remember much about her dad (Woody). Woody left them when Flicka was little. Beth was always flirting with the other studs, working or learning instead of spending time with Flicka. Flicka wanted her momma to be with her but Beth would leave them with another mare. Flicka feared that momma would leave and never come back like daddy did. After a few years, momma married Sam. Sam was overly stict and tempermental. John (Flicka's older brother) left to live with Woody. Flicka asked momma why her brother left just like daddy did. Momma wouldn't answer. Flicka began to think that every male will either leave or be abusive.
When Flicka gew up, she discovered that John left because Sam hit him with a horse whip. Flicka had trouble trusting people and feared her bosses. She feared that they would yell at her or fire her if she made a single mistake while at work. She feared marriage because the man would probably just leave her or try to control her. Yet, she became lonely without someone to share her life with. She longed for the companionship and intimacy that only mate could give her yet she lacked the ability to trust or depend on others.
