I was about to say... let him go through the grief process. Let him be sad for a while and if he doesn't want to be distracted with overload of happy things... don't push it.

(and I am all for asking a T to help him through it, but I am hesitant to see usefulness of a pdoc at this moment. Medicating grief could be dangerous.)
