Maybe he means, "hypo-manic" ? Though that is only one part of Bipolar, and there are different degrees of the manic end of this.
You need to have a professional psychiatric evaluation, preferably by a psychiatrist, even though a psychologist can narrow things down to a real DX or not.
No one other is really qualified to say you are Bipolar, rather it's a "self-diagnosis" or your boyrfriend, friends and/or family.
Sadly, people glance over questionaires, internet stuff and even literature and automatically think they can "label" someone with some sort of mental disorder.
There can be physical disorders or health issues that can contribute to different behaviours, I'd suggest to discontinue hearing him and yourself making a diagnosis, and just seek professional help.
The sooner the better, cause the constant wondering what this is all about just creates more unecessary anxiety for you and him, too.
If a pdoc does DX you, don't feel there is no hope, there is and there are many great medications that can be of help to you besides talk therapy combined.
I wish you lots of luck with this, all of us here, understand your frustration, confusion, and anxiety, hang in there and be sure to take this up with a mental health professional.
