hello blueangel2014 a little bit of feedback, how long have you been on medications? this will help answer some questions. In a way the pdoc may be right about you seeking help with therapy perhaps along side your medications. In a way professional or self-therapy is a way to exit your comfort zone the medications have you one now. Making progress through passing that threshold makes sense (I'm no doctor), but from personal experience I did a lot of self help therapy and until now it has help me.
See if on your next appt. perhaps you can let him recommend you to a good psychologist or social worker for therapy. Also, if you feel like everything is failing and you may need to feel the need increasing your medications might make you feel better, then you always have the option to switch doctor and find one that will be willing to increase your medications.
