I mean yes I can totally call 911 and get them To put me on a three day hold and force them to take me but that involves me in handcuffs and other unpleasantness best avoided.
I've done it before to call and 8 out if ten times they say yes or no and start the assessment papers on the phone til I get there. If someone's about to kill themselves it's not prudent to say sorry come on over and find out if we can keep you or transfer you out. To me that's ********. I hang up on those people and find someplace else.
Also once I went straight there (as they told me to) even tho I said I had hurt myself and they were mad I didn't go to eR first for stitches.
I once had ankle surgery and was in a hard cast and was suicidal. You know these morons and their "policies" told me sure I can come but I'd have to stop off at the ER first to get my cast cut off bc it wasn't allowed on unit. three days post major surgery. If people can't have common sense to see the bigger picture then why bother with them? It's reflective of the service they're likely to provide.
I have little patience for idiots when I'm entrusting my welfare to them.

Okay that is awful. At our hospital you start at the ER for a quick assessment and then taken to the psych er (they are side by side). If you meet criteria for admission just huge urges to SI is sufficient to get admitted. If we don't have a bed a person is given the choice of staying in the psych er or be transferred to another facility.
I am sorry it is so hard for you to get the services you need. Sounds like they have ridiculous policies in your area.
As far as the cast goes what do they do with the elderly or disabled people who needs a cane? Crazy..
