My psychiatrist has hospital privileges. She admitted me a few times. The admission process was so much easier then going through the ER, where you have to see the ER physician before seeing the psych nurse and if needed the psychiatrist on call. If I ever need hospitalization, I can request it. I'd rather do that than go to the ER, where I would have to talk to strangers who know nothing about me and my history.
If your psychiatrist is affiliated with the hospital the staff will treat you with a lot more respect. Trust me.
