Trying to be active helps me when I am depressed and/or overwhelmed. Just starting can be tough, but just trying to do one thing for a limited amount of time such as 5-10 minutes is a start. Trying to tackle 2-3 things or everything at once just makes things worse for me. Sometimes I get started by remembering the slogan First Things First, and try to do one priority item that would be good to get done right now. No multi-tasking for me when I am down or overwhelmed!
