Having a high IQ doesn't mean that you necessarily give a damn I think that depends more on your capacity for compassion and empathy. There are many very intelligent people who don't feel things in that way.
I do understand what you mean.

I think IQ (intelligence) is just a tool, a part of one's package one is born with and it's what one does with it that is important, not "having" it. Someone pointed out that people with high IQs make better physicists and pool players and I was tempted to ask which the poster was then :-) My aunt took me to a MENSA social in her town and I was underwhelmed with the people I met there.
I agree that it's a gift or a tool. A person may not use the tool wisely. They may not even know how to use it at all. It doesn't guaranty you financial or spiritual success. It may not even play an integral part in your chosen profession. Jill St John comes to mind
I agree with your experience of "Mensa people." When someone boasts of being a member of MENSA I tend to write them off my list of people I think I'd like to meet.
There are different types of intelligence I believe. IRL people seem impressed with my intelligence but... my IQ number isn't exactly jaw dropping. It is far below Jill St John's
