I have seen something about this on MTV once. I'm not sure that I can... believe they are really meant to be animals? But I believe that they believe it.
From my understanding of the show I saw, they explained it like transgender. They were born into the wrong species.
Rather odd, but who knows. Maybe it'll come up in the DSM one day!
