I just checked the CDC website. They say not to use a match, because it may cause the tick to inject fluids into you. I would add that you run the risk of burning yourself.
If the tick leaves its head in you, it may cause a little irritated bump, but it's unlikely to be any real problem. It will heal up.
As I said, I've had many ticks in my life. And my animals have had many, many more. I just grab them and pull them out. It's never been a problem. I think people make too much of it.
