The thing with BPD is that it's a life long process...there's no cure or magic fix, it takes a lot of work and hell of a lot of commitment. Not everyone goes down the conventional treatment route and that's fine, but if you want to tackle the issue it's imperative that you find your own way of doing so.
Within the UK, the normal process is a referral to a PD team who will then most likely put you through a period of assessment (which can take a couple of months). Depending on this assessment you'll either be diagnosed or referred back to your CMHT. Where you go from assessment also depends on your postcode in terms of accessible treatment. DBT is considered the gold standard of treatment and this is made up of several weekly individual and group sessions for 1-2 years. Aside from DBT there is MBT which is not yet widely available, Schema, individual psychotherapy and something called S.T.E.P.P.S which i believe is akin to DBT.
The Mind website has very good advice on NICE guidelines, what you can expect, complaints procedures and types of treatment/accessibility. I would refer you there for further information. Other then that i hope we can continue to support you. There is a relationships and communications board for any issues involving our loved ones as well as a workplace board for problems of that nature. However, this being a predominantly American site, Mind will most likely have more relevant information on careers affected by mental ill health.
I hope i've managed to be vaguely helpful. Keep posting, we're here to listen.
