I am a teacher with adult ADD. My son has ADHD which was diagnosed when he was in the 3rd grade. I have been successful in college and have attempted much graduate work too but I have had to kill myself doing it. I describe my thought patterns like this:
Imagine you are watching a child on a carnival carousel. He is going around and around and up and down. You try to follow him with your eyes but he keeps moving around to the other side of the carousel and then he turns his head laughing. The music is distracting too and soon your head is swimming with Caliope music and colorful distractions burst into your face from every colorful horse to each crying baby.
This is what it is like for me to focus enough to write lesson plans and be successful at work. I'm am very creative. I'm a perfectionist. I like to impress people. I'm a people pleaser.
I also have a long ongoing bout with depression. Currently taking generic Prozac and Adderal.
Any other teachers on here or any advice for someone like me? Thanks.
