In some cultures shaman guided psychedelic experiences aren't unheard of, however the shaman usually somewhat guides the 'trip' or whatever so if problems arise they can guide them through it or whatever. However they think that guidence is very important.

There are people who do it on their own or just with other people but not guided with a shaman obviously...and sometimes people can be misinformed about it or forget the importance of having a comfortable setting to do it in to minimize a bad trip. I have tried psychedelics a few times and had mostly good experiences though I was not really looking for a spiritual aspect at that point so much...I had a bad mushroom trip which scared the crap out of me but after it wore off and I was able to kind of process it I felt like I also kinda learned from it and saw a lot of really deep things of importance.

Right now I am giving meds to try to help depression a chance, but I am a bit suspicious they more dull the mind than really help it...so yeah even if I was to attempt psychedelics I think the med I am taking would make it pointless not entirely sure but based on some internet reading i did its likely it interferes with them...but I am hoping mental health research will catch up and they might start studing how psychedelics could potentially help psychological issues if used in the right way, I have heard its possible they may be doing more clinical studies like that but not entirely sure.
