I tried mushrooms in Amsterdam last summer. I had a terrible reaction to them, and I used to do LSD without a problem. I'm not sure it is worth the risk. There are other ways to explore deeper levels of unconscious material without drugs. Art, meditation, breath work, etc.

That said, there is ongoing research on the use of MDMA for the treatment of chronic PTSD. Even people who never believed in the use of psychedelics for therapy (which has existed for a long time) are becoming converted to this because the evidence is so strong. A doctor at Harvard explained that MDMA has properties of increasing trust and interpersonal pleasure so that the patient can do intensive therapy and recall traumatic memories feeling more safe than in a normal state. In a way, this is not really the psychedelic aspect of the drug that is considered the key element.
