The thing is, the way this hoax seems to have been presented is a 'leaked' email, about the police all being called in. Which is low key in one way, but speaks volumes about what they were anticipating - it could easily have been true.
I honestly generally don't waste my time thinking about terrorist attacks (if any of us did, we'd never leave the house!) but this just tapped into something and spooked me. It's ok now though.
I suppose my background affects how I feel about learning about these things in the news, etc. I come from a place of civil unrest, where bombs and other violence were a regular enough part of everyday life to be quite normal. And we didn't look to the news for information then either - we didn't have social media, but relied on word of mouth and community knowledge of different areas (which ones to stay out of or be very careful about) to stay safe. That all sounds very dramatic, and it really wasn't! I guess last night's email sent those old neural pathways firing though.
