Great job! I recently read an article about how we can let go of almost any habit if we realize that we don't have to do it.
We don't have to act on the thought to use drugs or smoke cigarettes.
The author said to just watch the urge to use without acting on it and that pretty soon, the urge won't have any power over us.
That's easier said than done. The last time I relapsed I just started using as soon as I thought about it without thinking about anything else. I didn't think about calling my sponsor or about going to a meeting. I simply called a cab, and went to the 'bad' part of the city to get drugs.
I've been clean for a few months now and I'm definitely going to practice watching my urges to use cocaine. It's going to be hard, but if the guy that wrote the article is right, it should get easier and easier to just 'watch' without 'acting'.
What do you think?
