Thanks Hellion. I don't want anyone thinking I condone the behavior, if it's true. I worry most about our judicial system as it stands now. If it's true, the boss would basically get a slap on the wrist - maybe even kudos from the guys down at the tavern. He'd most likely be able to pull his life back together and start over, even if it becomes a big story. But the workers and their families would be the big losers. They have no power in the judicial system, no strong allies/advocates on their side. With the political atmosphere as it is, they don't even have the support of American society. If it were to become a big story, reporters would probably focus on the sex abuse aspect - because they know stories like that sell. Or they'd use it for a "teaching moment," then quickly sweep it under the rug. Again, the boss would have the chance to redeem himself (maybe even profit) - but it would only devastate the employees and their families even further.
I think the workers should at least be given a heads up before having their lives uprooted and destroyed - even if it's for the intent to "save" them from their boss.
