I've had coverage probs in the lovely state I live in. Urgent care didn't help. But ER, sorta. Some meds you can get a supply at the ER, for x number of days & a referral. (The referral was useless). Some you can't. Like ADD/ADHD med. I finally got my son an appt today - after a frantic phone call yesterday to yet another office. Everyone else had a 2 month wait when I called in August, even the doc he saw a year ago. He had an appt booked for the 16th of this month but how long could he white knuckle it before breaking? I did not want to get him checked in when it was clear he had a good balance on meds & that's all he needed. He thought he could hang on.
Having to watch him suffer was horrid. The last hospitalization almost led to his death (vitals bottomed out from meds & they didn't listen when he started to black out). He had finally found a combo that works. As an adult now he is uninsured.
I get so mad at the stonewalling or lack of coverage of mental health. Why isn't it taken as seriously as say diabetes?
I'm so sorry you & your family are going through this. You've heard my tales of woe.
