If you attack an armed Gardai here with a knife, you'll be shot. You don't need a gun. But yet you don't see really high rates (if any) of people being shot by Gardai.
Maybe it's culture but gun restrictions like we have here are the way to go. No one can really hold a valid argument to the opposite.

Yeah when I went over to Scotland there was this huge fear of knife violence.....we don't have that here so much....my point was I don't want to be ruled by a queen (and yes I know you have parliament now but still) thus guns for all to prevent that....that is in fact how we became independent in the first place, had we not had guns for hunting we would still be having high tea and paying exorbitant taxes on it. I have no doubt the current us gov will eventually be so overrun by corporations we will have to forcibly overthrow it and start again....hopefully not in my lifetime, unfortunately to prevent that we need to keep the guns around and there are consequences for that. If there are no guns getting people to rebel is much harder although. I'm talking about the future and large scale civil war not day to day stuff....I wouldn't wave a gun anywhere near a cop or soldier unless I was part of militia but they need to have the guns in the first place. Problem is if we get rid of the guns all we have are knives vs assault rifles and helicopters/bombs etc....that's not going to work. To me this is a key element of the constitution.
Isn't Ireland or at least part of it still trying to be free from England's rule? We did that like 200 years ago thanks to guns...
So here is my thing, short term good, no guns for anyone but military, long term good guns for all. I'm in it for the long term outcome.
