Definitely get professional input if you haven't already because this might be symptomatic of something that needs medical control. Distraction is good also - something that can hold your focus like a puzzle, crossword or Sudoku. Sounds simplistic but the best solutions usually are. I'm not one for meditation and 'soothing' - i think in times of intense energy and agitation it's about finding something to occupy that attention until the moment has passed. Something physically and mentally distracting might be best; cooking, decorating and shopping come to mind. I hope you find what works for you.
