Hubby and I went to the Santa Barbara Fair yesterday and spent most of the day there. My granddaughter was showing her guinea pigs. They're called Cavies in the show world. She had her best of show as usual and she won second place in her showmanship.

I saw many old friends there that I had back in the days when my baby was a baby. LOL Some were 4H leaders but most of them were moms of the other kids. What a trip it is to see that even those friendships never die! My son thought he wasn't liked much and that he was picked on all the years he was in 4H, yet I saw him get hugs after hugs from all the girls and slaps on the back from the guys. I could see him glow every time it happened. He even got hugs from the moms! Of course, I did, too, which made MY day! I even got fussed over by one mom. She and I made a connection when our kids were little. We don't stay in touch but we can pretty much count on seeing each other at fairs and manage to spend some time together catching up. Here she is, with three knee surgeries behind her, wearing Fentenol patches for the pain in her knee AND her back, but she's pushing a stroller with her youngest grandchild... AND making a fuss over me because my hoodie kept dragging on the groung; a hoodie I bought in her honor because way back in the day, she had lent me hers "one cold and blustery evening."

Then of course, I got to spoil my grandkids rotten! "Bela, you have money?"

"What does my baby want?"

"We want to go on rides!!"

"Bela, I'm hungry! Can we have some cotton candy?" ( )

"How about a corn dog or corn on the cob?"

"YEAH!!!!"

Then my granddaughter salivating (supposedly) when she saw my funnel cake. Of course, I'd tear off a piece for her every time she went by me. The "routine" of it struck me in the heart!

The best thing that happened yesterday is that hubby and I had a GREAT TIME!! He's been off his Depakote for a week and there's great improvement. It's time he let his pdoc know, I think.
