I called an ambulance once when I was sure I was about to perish. It looked enough like a heart attack to the paramedics that they were preparing nitroglycerin for me. But the EKG was reading normal, blood oxygen normal...when they learned I had a history of panic attacks they knew what it was. They still carried me to the ER on a stretcher, but it felt like their attitudes had changed. It was as if they felt like they should have been taking me to a psych ward instead.
