Most of the general population don't understand methadone and how it works, so that is why they are against it. If more people understood that for some people it is the only way, but most people in recovery at first are anti everything some don't even think you need an antidepressant. I personally know I would have never got clean if it wasn't for methadone. But I don't mention the word addiction in certain company! I know ...that is a line from a song!
