When you put your makeup on you use a mirror to provide a reflection so that you don't put mascara all over your face, right? Well, having a therapist is like having a reflection of your unconscious thoughts. Our everyday actions are driven by unconscious thoughts and emotions. You can't access or feel your unconscious simply by willing it, you need a reflection to work from. Then, of course, what you do with that reflection is up to you.
