Told her (on a topic related to our session) that my husband and I had decided against sending him to a very expensive wrestling event in favor of a family vacation. My T mistakenly assumed I was planning to send my daughter to see the wrestling (we did once) and told me it'd be much healthier for her not to go anyway.

You know what... I know I'm the client and my T is loyal to me and not my hubby, but honestly, I don't want or need her judging him or us for every little thing. My daughter is NOT allowed to even watch wrestling in the house. My husband watches it after she's in bed, though she may occasionally hear a snippet. The event is a once per year thing, three hours.

Now listen, I'm not saying it's neutral, but you know what... first we weren't even taking her and second, it would only be three hours: I don't put watching wrestling three hours once as child abuse.

Jeeze, I wanted to go off on her about all the things I find harmful that "everyone" does, normalized things so much worse than watching grown men have fake fights for three hours in the masculine version of a soap opera, but I didn't. I don't want to quibble, I just don't need her complicating what should've been a simple reply with her judgement.

Do I love the idea that my kiddo watched it three hours, no, but jeeze... can she please save the judgement for the serious things?

Therapeutic neutrality is a myth, and frankly, a cop-out. (By which I mean they are neutral when it suits them, and when not, not. It allows them to be useless or interfering as the mood takes them.)
