Are you seeing a pdoc (psychiatrist) or a T (therapist). You might have him go with you to a session and have a professional explain the condition to him. People will usually listen much more to a third party professional much more than to someone they are emotionally involved with.
Also anything he can do to educate himself, like surfing this site. Tons of info here.
