I have actually the diagonsis of both. reason being, while on a certain med, it enables me to be more out of my own self and to interact with people a bunch, which comes off as aspergers, and while i am not on the right dose of the med, i am classic autism. I was diagnosed with classic autism (Back then it was just "autism") when i was 4yr. i wasn't diagnosed with aspergers until my late teens when i was first placed on stimulants. (also growing up i went "mute" early on, and then gained a dx of "elective mutism" while in school).

It is impossible to have both at the same time. Autism and Asperger's are at opposite ends of the same spectrum. Sometimes people who are diagnosed with autism as a young child get re-diagnosed with Asperger's later on. They lose their autism diagnosis.
