Did you guys know that okra plants contain solenine? It's a substance in plants in the nightshade family (tomatoes, potatoes, etc) that causes inflammation, muscle pain and allergic reactions in some people. Okra isn't in the nightshade family, but has the same chemical. As it turns out, if you have a contact allergy to tomato vines, you should avoid okra stalks as well. Also, the prickers on the okra plants put the chemical inside your skin, so the allergic reaction is not limited to your skin. Feeling pretty sick and awful today.
