I have been dealing with psoriasis for most of my life and I know what a frustrating condition it can be. My psoriasis is most severe on my scalp. Scalp psoriasis is very common. In fact, at least half of all people who have psoriasis have it on their scalp. As with psoriasis elsewhere on the body, skin cells grow too quickly on the scalp and cause red lesions covered with scale to appear.
There are several products available to treat scalp psoriasis. Shampoos are available over the counter that contain tar and salicylic acid ingredients and can be effective at controlling mild psoriasis. These medications are also available in prescription form. There are also a variety of steriod products available by prescription that are applied topically to the scalp.
The
National Psoriasis Foundation is a wonderful resource for all things psoriasis. They have loads of information on what psoriasis is and what treatment options are available.
