If you get that big cage set up, is there any way you can put cat litter on the bottoms? Feline Pine is the best I have found. It doesn't get smelly until it's quite saturated with urine. You can also use it as soil amendment. With cats, they tell you to get rid of the poop first, but with bunnies, you could just dig it into your soil.
If I was you, I'd want my bunnies inside, too.
