I watched the show. I thought it was done very well and in a tastefully, honest, informative, compassionate way. he wasnt saying it doesnt exist, or that it doesnt happen through extreme abuse. he was talking in general there are cases documented where treatment providers have caused people who are not DID to pretend they were for the attention of their treatment providers and noteriety, and that there are documented cases where some people have faked having the disorder because they felt it was the disease of the times.

he talked with her and her alters, her husband, her mother and her therapist.

he also stated that how its looked at in the 80's .....compared....to when he taped the show was vastly different. (the show was uploaded to youtube sept 2013 so it was taped and aired before that). he also introduced his producer and research team who track down those that write in to the show and professional information about what ever is being discussed on the show, in this case DID. he also helped the family by sending/referring them to a top knotch treatment facility that can work with the person that came on the show, her alters and their individual problems that include more than one mental disorder, and other problems.

I found him to be very compassionate to her, the alters and her family. Dr phil isnt one to sugar coat things. if he felt she was faking it he would have had her take a polygraph test or undergone hypnosis and revealed the results on the show, instead he listened, understood, believed and got her help.

my opinion very good show and tastefully done. Im not saying the original poster is wrong because everyone has their own opinions and can get different reactions/things out of watching the same tv shows. this is just my own opinion of how dr phil did his show, presented the material and interacted with the client, got the client the help she was looking for.
