Unfortunately making judgments is built in to our DNA, all animals in order to survive have to be able to distinguish what is dangerous from what is safe. Despite all of our advances in culture, that fundamental instinct remains, our brains our designed to categorize things quickly as part of our cognitive processing.
I think Western society has made great strides in reducing discrimination through cultural practice and laws passed but these things do not necessarily re-wire our minds, so discrimination remains, no matter how we might consciously try to suppress it from our actions.
The best we can do is slow our thought process down, be aware that we are not applying rational thinking when we make "snap judgments" and consciously remap the encounter with a particular person or group into more logical inner dialogue.
