SSI does not stop if a person is not in treatment. they dont watch a persons case and when treatment stops send out the sorry you are cut off SSI because you are not disabled.
Once a person is on SSI they are considered disabled until they are either holding down a job, or someone reports them for working under the table.
SSI does have periodic re certifications where they send out forms asking the recipient of the SSI if anything on their disability has changed. if so they ask on the forms what the change in their disability is. has it gotten better, has it gotten worse. Randomly they periodically ask the recipient to get a new disability assessment done where the recipient of the SSI must either have their treatment providers fill out the forms or go to the treatment providers supplied in the list that accompanies the forms at SSI's cost.
the only time SSI has stopped a persons SSI grants that I know of is when the person went to prison. And another committed SSI fraud by working full time job and still receiving SSI. And another case where the person forgot to recertify (mail in the paperwork)
Just to be sure I contacted SSI and they verified in no USA state do they stop SSI grants due to a person not being in treatment, dropping out of treatment or transferring their treatment to other treatment providers. they said they have many many people on SSI who are not in treatment of any kind, some homelss some not, some just gave up on treatment options, some terminal some not terminal. obtaining medical and mental health treatment is an americans right not a mandatory you have to be in treatment with one exception... if a court of law mandates a person into treatment they have no choice. but even this does not affect a persons SSI.
